Directions

Mr Malcolm''s is situated approximately 5 Miles West of Whitby in the Eskdaleside Valley and are best accessed from the A169 in Sleights village turning West along Eskdaleside, heading towards Grosmont, we are one mile along on the left hand side.

The 840 Coastliner bus service from Leeds,York & Malton sets down in Sleights, close to the Eskdaleside road end and four times a day the 95 service from Whitby runs past us on its way to Lealholm.

Pitch your tent on the valley side in this marvellously peaceful spot.

Mr Malcolm''s is a new (2019) relaxed rural off grid camping field in the beautiful North York Moors National Park, set in the Esk valley with easy access to Whitby and the delightful North Yorkshire Coast.

Watch and listen to the wildlife in the surrounding fields, with regular visits from local barn owls on one of their dawn and dusk outings, flocks of partridges, pheasants and all manner of smaller birds plus you may even get a view of the local roe deer if you're lucky.

The site is small, off grid, tent only and accepts adults and children over 12.

With a selection of pitches, you can chose the communal camping area close to the facilities block and camp fire or one of our individual spaces on higher ground accessed by pathways mown through the long grass, whichever is the ideal spot for your stay.

Enjoy the views across the Esk valley and to the hills and moor beyond from your tent thanks to Mr Malcolm's marvellous vantage point, on a clear day you will even be able to see the famous Whitby Abbey and sea beyond.

Cars can be brought to the edge of the camping field and wheelbarrows are provided for transferring equipment and belongings to your chosen spot. Parking is then in the adjacent, flat former horse exercise arena.

Facilities include composting toilets, hot gas showers, wash sinks and solar lighting.

A repurposed digger bucket makes for an ideal communal campfire, perfect for watching the sunset, toasting marshmallows or simply sharing stories with friends old and new.

Barbecues are allowed but must be raised off the grass (stands available).

At reception there is a small shop with hot and cold drinks, snacks and camp essentials for sale along with camping equipment for rent as well as wifi, a seating area with view across the valley and a table football game for anyone fancying a game.

Things to do

Mr Malcolm''s is ideally situated to enjoy both the coastal attractions of Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Sandsend and slightly further afield Ravenscar, Scarborough and Saltburn on Sea and the inland delights of the North York Moors National Park.

Attractions include the famous NY Moors steam railway (as seen on TV) is based two miles away in Grosmont, the moors national park visitor centre at Danby, numerous beautiful valley and moorland villages, such as Lealholm, Beck Hole and Goathland (home of Heartbeat and the Hogsmead Rail station from the Harry Potter movies).

There are waterfalls at Falling Foss and the Mallyan Spout, a seal colony at Ravenscar, Dalby forest visitor centre with tree lined cycle and mountain bike routes, cycle rental, walks, Go ape and cafe.

For those who like walking the famous coast to coast path comes within a mile and a half and there are numerous moor, valley and coastal walks nearby. The North York Moors national park website has a host of suggested downloadable routes on its website.

Local shops and Pubs are available in Sleights and Grosmont (home of the steam Railway) and are one and two miles away respectively.

The area also has a range of festivals and events, from the 40''s and 60''s themed weeks, to Goths, Steam Punks and the renowned Folk Festival.

Or if none of the above are for you, simply enjoy the views, the fresh air, peace and quiet and amazing dark skies at night, great for a spot of amateur astronomy (see the North York Moors Dark Skies festival).
